The Bonawe Iron Furnace is located on the south side of Loch Etive, just north east of the village of Taynuilt in Argyll and Bute. This charcoal fuelled iron furnace was founded in 1753 and is the most complete example of this type of building in Britain. It operated until 1874 producing canon and shot for the navy. Now owned by Historic Scotland, the iron furnace is now a tourist attraction, featuring displays on the making of iron.
